About This Call
The City of El Paso is seeking an artist or artist team to create public artwork for a new fire station located at the intersection of Gateway East and Revere Street between the Raynolds Exit and Chelsea Exits off Interstate 10. The station will be a 14,000 square foot LEED Silver Certified facility with 7 drive-thru apparatus parking bays and sleeping accommodations for 22 on-duty personnel.
All professional artists residing within a 300 mile radius of El Paso, Texas are eligible to apply, except for employees of the City of El Paso, their spouses, or members of the Public Art Committee. Undergraduate students are not eligible. The total project budget is $70,000 and is all-inclusive, covering design fees, travel expenses, materials, fabrication costs, lighting, insurance, engineering, shipping, and installation.
The selected artist will collaborate with the design team to develop artwork proposals, conduct site research, prepare presentations with scale drawings and renderings, participate in approximately three in-person meetings with stakeholders, and handle fabrication, transportation, and installation. Submissions must include a letter of interest, current resume, and six images of completed past artworks (1920x1920 pixels, baseline JPEG format, no larger than 1.8 MB each). Artist teams must designate a lead artist who permanently resides within the 300-mile radius. Selection will be based on original vision, technical competence, experience in public art and complex projects, communication skills, and availability. Notification to the selected artist is scheduled for September 29, 2011.
