About This Call
The City of El Paso's Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) Public Art Program is inviting artists living within a 100 mile radius of El Paso, Texas to submit their qualifications for art opportunities at 25 new RTS stations along a 14.5 mile route through the Alameda Corridor. This opportunity is open to both emerging and established artists with a background in two-dimensional media and an interest in public art.
The Alameda RTS corridor consists of 25 stations (12 inbound, 13 outbound) strategically placed within a 14.5 mile stretch starting from the Downtown Transit Center (DTC) to the Mission Valley Transit Center (MVTC). Each station will feature high-end amenities including free Wi-Fi, bike racks, shade screens, electronic real-time displays, ticket vending machines, solar-powered compacting trash cans, and public art. The stations will be divided among artists based on geographic area across the length of the corridor. Selected artists will create original artwork designs and assist with fabrication oversight. The overall budget for design and fabrication of artwork for each grouping of stations is anticipated to range from $80,000 to $100,000, with the artist's fee between 10-15% of the station artwork budget, depending on the final scope of work.
Selected finalists will receive a project packet with information for developing their conceptual artwork proposal and will receive an honorarium of $500 towards the development and presentation of their proposal. The proposal phase selection criteria will be based on conceptual content, creativity, context, visual impact, and appropriateness of the proposal to each site. Applicants must submit 6 images.
