About This Call
The City of El Paso Museums & Cultural Affairs Department is seeking to purchase existing artwork created by artists living in the El Paso Area for installation in new City buildings. Approximately $200,000 is available for the 2013 Purchase Program. Artwork will become part of the City of El Paso Art Collection and will be installed at the Times Building (300 N. Campbell), Luther Building (218 N. Campbell), Texas Building (801 Texas Ave.), and other locations throughout the City.
Artist eligibility: Must be at least 18 years old, a professional artist dedicated to producing work on a regular basis, live and work in the El Paso Area, and cannot be a member of the City of El Paso Public Art Committee, Museums and Cultural Affairs Board, or current City employee. Artwork must be original and created within the last five years, with content suitable for a general audience. Submit up to 6 pieces of existing artwork available for purchase. Eligible formats include 2-dimensional work (drawings, paintings, textiles, quilts, photography, mixed media) and low-relief artwork not protruding more than 2 inches from the wall. Photographs and fine art prints must be signed, numbered, and in a limited edition of 250 or less. Artwork should be no smaller than 11 inches (height or width), maximum 80 inches, and maximum weight of 25 pounds. Artwork should not require power sources or utilities.
Selection will be based on artistic merit, aesthetic quality, and appropriateness for a public setting. Applications must be submitted online through CaFÉ™ (www.callforentry.org) with no application fee. Required materials include an artist statement (5,000 character maximum), 3-6 images of available artwork, an annotated image list with title, dimensions, materials, year of completion, and retail value, and a current résumé. Deadline for submission is February 14, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification of finalists will be sent in April 2013. Contact Patricia Dalbin at (915) 541-4894 or [email protected] for more information.
