About This Call
The City of Dublin is requesting experienced artists or artist teams to submit qualifications for the creation of public artworks for the new Dublin Transit Center. Artists will design and implement works of art for two different areas of the Transit Center, with completion scheduled for fall 2010.
Two artwork sites have been identified: a median strip adjacent and to the east of Campbell Green (approximately 77 feet long by 15 feet wide), and a median/pedestrian island at the intersection of DeMarcus Boulevard and Iron Horse Parkway (approximately 220 feet long by 30 feet wide). One artist/artist team or two separate artists/artist teams may be selected. Artists may specify in their Letter of Interest whether they would like to be considered for one site in particular or for both sites. The budget for each artwork is approximately $100,000, with a minimum of $80,000 and a maximum of $120,000, including design, fabrication, delivery, installation, consultants, engineering permits, and artist insurance. All media appropriate for permanent outdoor installation with very low maintenance requirements will be considered. Artworks may reflect themes including transit, Dublin's history, gateway, sustainability, education, community, cultural diversity, and future vision.
Eligibility is limited to artists residing in California. The selection process will be conducted in two phases. Phase I involves the Art Selection Committee reviewing submissions and selecting a maximum of 5 artists per site for interviews; semi-finalists will receive a $100 honorarium for the interview, plus up to $250 travel allowance if more than 120 miles from Dublin. Phase II involves approved artists developing concept designs for approximately 10% of the project budget. Submissions must include a one-page letter of interest, resume (not exceeding 5 pages), 10 images of past work, annotated image list with full descriptions, and three professional references. Artists must also carry a minimum of $1,000,000 combined single incident general liability insurance, $1,000,000 combined single limit per accident automobile liability, and Workers' Compensation insurance of $1,000,000 per accident Employers Liability.
