About This Call

Denver's Better Bond Program is seeking an artist or team of artists from Colorado to develop a conceptual streetscape design for portions of Tennyson Street between 38th and 44th Avenue (6 blocks). Approximately $2.1 million was allocated to this project, and the City's 1% Arts requirement for construction projects exceeding $1 million applies.

The new streetscape design will include contemporary elements such as lighting, hardscape, seat walls integrated into planting beds, bump outs (wider sidewalks with trees), and improved areas for congregation. Art pedestals ranging from 3x3 to 5x5 feet will provide space for sculptural art and temporary/versatile installations. The design will feature a minimum 10' paved sidewalk areas, pedestrian lighting, and street trees. The design team aims to create a vibrant and artistic experience reflecting the energetic, colorful character of the emerging Tennyson community.

Approximately $15,000 is available for this commission, inclusive of all expenses including the artist's design fee, engineering, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and travel. Artists are encouraged to seek in-kind donations to extend the budget. All artists working in any medium are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit eight digital images, a résumé, and a concept statement of no longer than 500 words via www.callforentry.org. Between three and five semi-finalists will be selected and invited to present proposals to the selection panel. Semi-finalists will receive an honorarium to prepare and present proposals in person. All public art projects must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for the public realm. Selected artists will collaborate with the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs and the Tennyson Street design team when finalizing designs for installation.
