About This Call

Arts & Venues Denver is seeking an artist or artist team for a site-specific public art commission that complements street improvements along East Colfax Avenue between Grant Street and Columbine Street. The selection panel has recommended a free-standing artwork for the site located near the intersection of Colfax Avenue, Franklin Street, and Park Avenue. This commission is open to Colorado artists and artist teams working in all media. The estimated budget for the artwork is $23,000.

The selection panel seeks a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork appropriate to the color and vibrancy of Colfax Avenue. Three-dimensional artwork in all media and materials is welcome, including kinetic or light-based media. Materials should highlight or complement the history or character of Colfax Avenue and must be highly durable and low-maintenance to withstand weather, physical stresses, and potential vandalism. All public art projects will be reviewed by the City of Denver's Public Art Subcommittee and the Department of Construction and Engineering to ensure conformity with City standards and ADA compliance.

Eligibility is open to artists who currently live and work in Colorado, regardless of background. Artists working in any media are eligible, and previous public art experience is not required. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Single artists and multi-person collaborations may apply. Applicants must submit eight digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest of no longer than 2,000 characters via www.callforentry.org. Artists working in kinetic, sound, or media formats should also submit a DVD of no more than five minutes. The selection panel will choose one to three semi-finalists for interviews. If a formal proposal is requested, the artist will receive a $500 honorarium to prepare and present the proposal in person. The deadline for entry is Friday, December 7, 5:00 p.m. MST.
