About This Call
Denver Public Art is seeking to directly purchase multiple existing artworks for the new Lena Archuleta Library in the Westwood neighborhood of Denver. This is a unique opportunity for artists to submit existing artworks for consideration of purchase; all artworks selected will become a part of the City of Denver's public art collection. The goal is to fill the new library with vibrant artworks that honor the beautiful new space and the community it serves. The budget is approximately $60,000 USD, with 2-10 artworks to be selected.
The panel is seeking artists who have existing two-dimensional artwork in mediums suitable for indoor display. Works in a variety of media and forms will be considered, including textiles, painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, ceramics, or sculpture (under 6 inches deep, that can hang on the wall). The panel hopes to see artwork that sparks curiosity, connects with the community, feels like home, speaks to the immigrant or American Indian experience, uses color, honors multiple generations, promotes hope and healing, speaks to children, and honors Lena Archuleta's legacy of empowerment through education.
The Lena Archuleta Library is a brand-new, 6,000 square foot branch set to open in November 2025, located inside a newly renovated church at the corner of W. Nevada Place and S. Irving Street. Wall spaces range from small (24x16 inches) to large (110x48 inches). Artists will be paid the price submitted for each artwork, which should include framing, transportation/shipping, and documentation. The deadline is December 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST, with artwork selection in February 2026 and delivery in late March 2026.
