About This Call
Arts & Venues Denver is seeking a Denver Metropolitan area artist or artist team for a site-specific public art commission at Eisenhower Recreation Center, located at 4300 E. Dartmouth Ave., Denver, CO 80222. The selection panel is open to two- or three-dimensional artwork in all media and materials, including kinetic, sound-based media, interactive tactile artworks, or water feature artworks. The estimated budget for the artwork is $22,000.
The Eisenhower Recreation Center is located on the spacious Mamie Doud Eisenhower Park, which stretches eight blocks from South Colorado Boulevard to South Dahlia Street and abuts the Highline Canal Trail. The facility underwent renovations in 2011, including an expansion with a multi-purpose room for exercise classes and arts and crafts, a community open space with seating overlooking the workout facility, a full-length gymnasium, and a remodeled kitchen. Potential artwork locations include the front entryway with a steel portico, the outdoor pool area with a prominent masonry brick wall, a "gateway" art project at various corners or parking lot entry areas, and interior locations in the gymnasium. The selection panel is also open to creative possibilities that engage the Highline Canal or the outdoor children's playground.
Applicants must submit eight digital images of previous projects, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. From these applications, the selection panel will choose one to three semi-finalists for interviews. If a formal proposal is requested, the artist will receive a $500 honorarium to prepare and present the proposal in person. This project is open to artists who currently live and work in the Denver Metropolitan area, regardless of background. Artists working in any media are eligible, and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Teams may apply and should submit a single résumé for the whole team. The budget of $22,000 is inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation fees, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and prevailing wage requirements for work on City property. The application deadline is Friday, February 22, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. MST.
