About This Call
The City of Denver is seeking artists for integrated or non-integrated artwork at the new Eastside Human Services Building, located at 3821 Steele Street in the North Park Hill neighborhood. The 51,000 square-foot facility will serve the surrounding community with public assistance programs including Food Assistance, LEAP, TANF, Medicaid, Child Care Assistance, Child Support, General Assistance, Veterans' Services, Child Welfare Services, and Denver Employment First. The building is designed to meet LEED Silver Level standards and is projected to open in fall 2011.
Art opportunities include: two lobbies (ground floor approximately 80' x 20' x 20' and second floor 30' x 40') designed as welcoming, calming spaces that may incorporate interactive or ever-changing artwork; a large plaza (approximately 20' x 80') with garden spaces, outdoor gathering areas, and a water retention pond; steep grades on the south and east edges offering opportunities for earthworks or land art; and a two-story glass enclosed atrium at the main entry where glass artist work could be incorporated into the building façade.
Applicants may apply as a single artist or multi-person collaboration. Submit eight digital images, a résumé, and a letter of interest of no more than 250 words. The Selection Panel will select up to five semi-finalists, each receiving an honorarium of $750 (in-state) or $1,250 (out-of-state) to prepare and present a final proposal. The total contract awarded to the selected artist or team is approximately $115,000, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingency. Artists submitting kinetic or sound works must also submit a DVD or VHS tape of no more than five minutes to the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. There is no application fee.
