City of Denver: Crime Lab Public Art Opportunity

The Denver Police Department Crime Laboratory is a new facility located in Denver's Golden Triangle/Civic Center neighborhood, bordered by the Justice Center Campus to the west and adjacent to the Denver Mint, City and County Building, Denver Art Museum, and Clyfford Still Museum.

The design team seeks an artist or artists experienced with large-scale projects to create public art that integrates elegantly into the building's architectural and spatial character. The artwork should complement the design approach of subtlety and abstraction, exploring the intersection of art, science, and technology. The panel has made no stipulations regarding media, subject matter, or style. The artwork will be visible inside the building and through glazed areas from the street, with a desire for a night presence. The panel suggests the artwork be elegant, timeless, tasteful, and function well within the architectural spaces and Golden Triangle neighborhood.

The main lobby features three-story open volumes creating a spatially connected atrium. Abstracted programmatic volumes celebrating internal functions have potential to serve as canvases for subtle strategies of light and/or color. Work samples should include 8 images.
