About This Call
The Central Platte Valley Metropolitan District with the assistance of The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) is seeking artists or artist teams from Colorado for several temporary art commissions. Non-Colorado artists will be removed from the selection.
The artwork will be located on a construction mitigation fence surrounding work on the west side of Union Station between Chestnut St. and Wewatta St. along the extended 16th St Mall leading to the Millennium Bridge (approximately 800 ft). The galvanized chain link fence is 6' high with green mesh fabric screening. During the next 4 years, the construction fence will surround several square blocks with interest in having the artwork transition around the fence line over the 4-year period. The budget for the artwork is $25,000.00 or less depending on proposal. Modifications to the fence are possible if they do not compromise safety and strength.
Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artworks, a statement of interest (500 words/2000 characters maximum), and a one- to two-page résumé via the CaFÉ™ online application system. Artists working with kinetic, sound, or media works must also submit a DVD of no more than five minutes. Up to five artists or artist teams will be short-listed as semi-finalists and asked to return for an interview or prepare a proposal. Semi-finalists will receive a $500 honorarium to prepare and present proposals in person. The selected artist(s) will be required to enter into a contract with the Central Platte Valley Metropolitan District, obtain required insurance, and participate in a public demonstration and/or lecture during installation. A pre-submission meeting will be held Friday, December 18 at 2:00 p.m. on the deck of the Millennium Bridge.
