City of Coeur d'Alene - Riverstone Public Art

The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission invites artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for public art in Riverstone, a 160-acre mixed-use, master-planned community in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The development includes retail, office and residential spaces, paved trails, a 10-acre pond and fountain, children's playground, restaurants, shopping, and a cinema complex. The Riverstone development is located on a former mill site. The Arts Commission is seeking to install public art that will embody the vibrant past and bright future of this area. There is no theme to this call, allowing for open interpretation and creativity.

Eligibility is open to all artists, designers, or creative individuals residing in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Montana. Artwork must be original works by the submitting artist (new or existing). The art may not be on display in other public art programs within a 200-mile radius of Coeur d'Alene, and may not contain advertising, religious art, sexual content, negative imagery, or convey political partisanship. The chosen art will be for exterior installation and must be durable and able to withstand Pacific Northwest weather and public interaction. Electricity will be available at the site.

Initial submissions should include one clearly identified image of the proposal/concept and five clearly identified images of previous work, along with a resume reflecting experience in submission, selection, and successful installation of public art on a similar scale. Each short-listed artist will receive a $300 stipend for preliminary efforts. The allowable budget for the final artwork is up to $69,000, including the artist's fee, travel, fabrication, engineering, materials, documentation, installation, lighting, and all other costs. Artists may submit up to three proposals. Applications must be submitted through the CaFÉ website by 5:00 p.m. PST on July 10, 2016. A site tour is scheduled for Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the entrance of Riverstone Starbucks, 2360 Old Mill Road, Coeur d'Alene.
