About This Call
The City of Coeur d'Alene is seeking a sculpture for the center of the westernmost roundabout on Fort Grounds Drive. The Four Corners area, located at the heart of the downtown corridor, has been redeveloped into a pedestrian-focused corridor with traffic circles and a roundabout. The sculpture should significantly beautify the roundabout without obstructing traffic and will receive substantial vehicular, foot, and bicycle traffic. The total funding available is up to $45,000.00, which must cover the artist's fee, fabrication, materials, engineering, installation, lighting, and all other costs.
Artists may submit up to five designs, with each proposal submitted as a separate application. Initial submissions should include at least one image of the proposal and up to five images of previous work, along with a resume, dimensions, and list of materials. The artwork must be original, either a new piece or existing work by the submitting artist, and cannot be on display in other public art programs within 200 miles of Coeur d'Alene. The art may not contain advertising, religious content, sexual content, negative imagery, or convey political partisanship. Artwork must be durable and weather-resistant for exterior installation in the Pacific Northwest, with electricity available for lighting.
Short-listed artists will be notified by July 21, 2017, and will receive a $300 stipend to develop final drawings and maquettes by August 20, 2017. Submissions will be displayed for public review August 21-26, 2017. The successful artist will be chosen by September 1, 2017, with contract issuance by October 5, 2017, and delivery and installation by April 1, 2018. This call is open to all artists, designers, and creative individuals residing in North America. Applications must be received through the CaFÉ website no later than 5:00 pm PDT on July 10, 2017.
