About This Call

The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission seeks an original art piece for installation along the Centennial Trail that embodies the diverse and rich history of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe and reflects the vibrant present and bright future of the area. The artwork should recognize the culture and history of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, reflect the history and formation of the community, and portray the diverse groups that created the city.

Eligibility is open to all artists, designers, or creative individuals residing in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission members and selection committee members are not eligible. Initial submissions must include a resume reflecting experience with public art installation at similar scale, one image of the proposal/concept, and five images of previous work. Each short-listed artist will receive a $300 stipend for preliminary efforts. The artwork must be an original work (new or existing) not on display in other public art programs within 200 miles of Coeur d'Alene. The art may not contain advertising, religious content, sexual content, negative imagery, or convey political partisanship. The chosen art will be for exterior installation and must withstand Pacific Northwest elements. Electricity will be available. The allowable budget is up to $45,000, including the artist's fee, travel, fabrication, engineering, materials, documentation, installation, lighting, and all other costs. The chosen artist will receive an up-front negotiated draw with the remaining balance paid upon acceptance of the final artwork. Submissions are evaluated on artist quality, context, diversity, structural integrity, feasibility, and evidence of ability to complete the work as proposed.
