About This Call

The Coeur d'Alene "ArtCurrents" program consists of sculptures on loan from artists residing in the Pacific Northwest. Artists submit applications for placement of their sculptures around the Coeur d'Alene area for a period of one year, including thirteen sculptures in downtown Coeur d'Alene and five sculptures in the Riverstone area. The one-year period runs from the beginning of October through the end of September of the following year. Selected pieces will be displayed during major events throughout the year that attract thousands of visitors, including Car d'Lane, Art on the Green, CDA Street Fair, Art in the Park, Ford Ironman Triathlon, The Chocolate Affair, Dog d'Alene, Oktoberfest, and the monthly Coeur d'Alene Art Walk.

Artwork must be a minimum of 36" tall or larger and must be designed and fabricated for long-term outdoor durability and ease of maintenance, including potential vandalism. Artists selected will be paid a stipend of $1,000.00 after receipt of the artwork. The artist is responsible for transporting the artwork to and from its location and for any associated transport costs. Temporary plaques with the art piece name and purchase information will be included with each installation. Displayed art pieces will be offered for sale with the City of Coeur d'Alene receiving a 25% commission from sales. Pieces purchased and donated back to the city will be relocated to an appropriate permanent location within city limits.

Applications must include two or more digital images taken from front and back viewpoints and installation requirements. Each proposed art piece should be submitted separately. A selection committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic quality, context, compatibility with site, materials' suitability and safety, possible contribution to the city's public art collection, public safety, environmental impact, media, diversity, feasibility, and duplication. Up to eighteen pieces will be selected and submitted to the Arts Commission for approval. The project is open to all artists residing in Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Oregon. Selection panelists and their immediate family members are not eligible.
