About This Call

The City of Clearwater Public Art & Design Program is seeking up to three artists to participate in a temporary sculpture exhibition from October 2013 to October 2014. Artwork will be selected to complement the Cleveland Street District streetscape and serve as a visual anchor point and identity for the District. The total budget for this project is $9,000, representing three honoraria of $3,000 for up to three artists. The honorarium is intended to cover artist expenses including temporary loan of artwork, transportation to and from the exhibition site, insurance for artwork transport and exhibition, and artist fees for on-site availability during installation and removal. The City will provide logistical and staff support for installation and removal and costs for promotional materials.

Sculpture360: Season VI is open to all professional artists and artist teams aged 18 and older residing in the United States. Professional artists are defined as practicing fine artists generally recognized by critics and peers as professionals of serious intent and ability. Three sites for artwork display are available in medians within the Cleveland Street District. Each artwork slab measures 9' L x 6' W x 6" H. Proposed artwork must fit within maximum dimensions of 16' L x 20' H x 6' W at ground base (unless diagonally positioned or 10' W aerial width). Two fixed lighting sources are pre-installed, and an electrical access box is available for additional lighting or LED features.

Artists must submit original, pre-existing artworks for temporary loan and exhibition. All artwork must be durable and require limited to no maintenance. A statement of recommended maintenance for a 12-month period is required. Materials sensitive to rust and fading should be avoided due to the Tampa Bay area's hot, humid climate with intense sunlight and frequent rainstorms. All artwork must sustain elevated wind speeds with gusts up to 130 mph. Selected artists are responsible for transportation of artwork, assistance and supervision during installation and removal, and availability for public information and education interviews during installation. Artists must provide General Liability Insurance of no less than $500,000 per occurrence, Workers Compensation and Employer's Liability Insurance of no less than $300,000 per occurrence, and Automobile Liability Insurance with limits of $500,000 coverage. Applications must include four images of available artwork, a current artist's resume emphasizing public art projects, and a letter of interest. The application deadline is Friday, July 19, 2013, 11:59:59 p.m. Mountain Time. Applications must be submitted online via the CaFE website with no application fee.
