About This Call
The City of Clearwater Public Art & Design Program is seeking an artist or artist team to create an original piece of public art for Fire Station 45, a new construction facility located on the east side of downtown Clearwater near Court Street between South Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and South Madison Avenue. The artwork will serve as an artistic enhancement to the facility and will be displayed in the building's interior atrium, a three-story space with full-glass windows stretching from ground level to the roof. The atrium can be modified to house a wide range of artwork, with preference given to mobile, suspended sculpture, or glasswork. Artwork must attach directly to structural concrete and will be illuminated at night for exterior viewing.
The budget for this commission is $111,580.00 USD, all-inclusive of design fees, consultation, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and all other project costs. Artists should submit work that expresses the duty and sacrifice of firefighters. Selection will be based on the strength and artistic merit of past works, experience with public art projects, and ability to complete a project of this scope. The Clearwater Public Art & Design Program is committed to reflecting the cultural diversity of the city in artist selection.
Eligibility is open to professional artists and artist teams aged 18 and older residing in the United States. Professional artists are defined as practicing fine artists generally recognized by critics and peers as professionals of serious intent and ability. Applicants must submit six images of recent work (at least two from public art programs), a current resume emphasizing public art experience, and a letter of interest. The application deadline is January 3, 2014 at 11:59:59 p.m. Mountain Time. Finalists will be notified January 24, 2014, with site-specific presentations scheduled for the week of February 17, 2014. Installation is scheduled for June 2014.
