About This Call
The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking an artist to create an original public art piece for the Amphitheatre site. The artwork should have a theme, harmonize with the landscape, encourage public interaction, and maximize the site location to create visual impact. The total budget is $60,000, which must cover fabrication, creation, installation, lighting, transportation, and performance bond.
Artists must submit a statement of interest, current chronological resume demonstrating relevant work experience (particularly public art or privately funded commission projects), and a preliminary concept describing the proposed art piece and approach. Submissions must include 6 different pieces of artwork as digital images conforming to CAFÉ guidelines, representing similar work based on size and scale comparable to the amphitheatre location.
Selected artists will meet with the Visual Arts Commission via conference call, video call, or in person. Tentative meeting dates are October 19th, October 26th, and November 2nd, with final concept due November 9th. The schedule may be modified by mutual consent provided the piece is completed and ready for installation by August 1, 2013. Artists must commit to the outlined timeline, complete the project within budget, sign an artist agreement with the City, provide proof of professional liability insurance, and agree to payment within 30 days of delivery or secure a performance bond. All proposals must be submitted 100% on CAFÉ; incomplete proposals will be disqualified.
