About This Call
The City and County of Broomfield Public Art Committee is seeking proposals for a public art installation at Anthem Community Park, located at 160th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard. The park site is highly visible from Lowell Boulevard, Sheridan Parkway, and the Northwest Parkway.
The proposed art site is a natural grass knoll on the south side of the park overlooking Siena Reservoir, approximately 15 by 15 feet in size. The theme for the artwork is "Earth Meets Water, Mountains Meet Plains, Past Meets Future." The artwork will be viewed from all angles and should celebrate creativity, establish a sense of place, have connection to the chosen site, and be safe for public interaction, especially with children. The piece(s) must be large and highly visible. Materials must require little or no maintenance and withstand harsh sun, high winds, wide temperature fluctuations, and moisture. Painted pieces should use pigment designed to withstand the elements. The artwork cannot interfere with pedestrian movement, safety, and security, nor hinder or require significant additional grounds maintenance.
The PAC proposes a budget of $42,000 for artwork via commission or direct purchase. This budget covers all expenses associated with design, labor, materials, tools, contracted services, operations, travel, installation of base or foundation, permits, taxes, insurance (including Colorado Worker's Compensation), landscaping modifications, and transportation and delivery. Any expenses exceeding the contracted amount are the artist's responsibility. Proof of insurance is required in accordance with City and County of Broomfield standards. Artists' travel expenses will not be reimbursed. Existing art pieces that are one of a kind or the first number in a limited edition may be considered, though preference will be given to original works designed specifically for this site. All proposed concepts are subject to approval by Broomfield City and County officials and/or other representatives. Applicants may submit up to 2 applications with 5 images per submission. Semi-finalists will be notified May 12, 2011, and must submit maquettes by June 10, 2011. Park installation is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2011.
