About This Call
The City of Aurora Art in Public Places Program and the Havana Business Improvement District are seeking existing outdoor sculpture for a one-year sculpture exhibition on Havana Street. The Exhibit Steering Committee has selected 10 potential sites to display sculpture, with an ideal installation timeline of September 2011. This project brings the business community and the arts together to attract visitors, energize the streetscape, and create public gathering places.
Exhibiting artists will receive a $750 stipend for transportation and installation. The Aurora Art in Public Places Program will purchase sculpture from the exhibit to add to the City's public art collection. The Havana Business Improvement District is providing cash awards: People's Choice ($1,000), 1st Place ($750), 2nd Place ($500), and 3rd Place ($250).
Eligibility is limited to visual artists residing in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas. Sculpture must be 3-dimensional freestanding work suitable for outdoor placement, no larger than 2 tons or 12 feet high, and no smaller than 3 feet high. Artwork must be durable, require little maintenance, be graffiti resistant, and withstand Colorado weather conditions. For public safety, artwork should not have sharp objects or edges. Artists must transport and install their own work and submit installation plans with drawings and any necessary engineering documentation. Submissions require a professional resume (maximum three single-sided pages), 2-4 digital images with an image list including title, media, dimensions, weight, and sale price. No hard copy submissions are accepted.
