City of Aurora, Colorado - Star K Ranch Public Art Commission

Star K Ranch is a 200-acre natural area and outdoor learning facility (The Morrison Nature Center) located along the Sand Creek Greenway. Originally built by Virgil "Pop" Stark as a refuge, the historic building now serves as a gathering space. The park features cottonwood forests, a resident herd of deer, and annual migrations of bald eagles. The flora is indigenous and left wild to provide visitors with a completely natural experience.

The Project Art Selection Panel has selected two sites adjacent to the Morrison Nature Center for a three-dimensional sculpture. Site one is within the island in the center of the parking lot of the Nature Center. Site two is located at the trailhead leading into the open space. These locations will provide a sense of welcome and a photo opportunity for visitors while promoting the Nature Center. The artwork should relate to local history and/or indigenous species of the area.

Funding for this project was made possible through the City of Aurora 1% Art in Public Places Ordinance. Submissions must include eight digital images formatted to CaFE specifications, a letter stating your experience with public art and your interest for this project, a resume (no longer than 2 pages), and 2 professional references including name, company, and phone number. There is no application fee. Event dates: 10/23/07.
