About This Call
The City of Aurora, Colorado invites artists and artist teams residing in Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Kansas, New Mexico, and Wyoming to submit qualifications for a public art commission at the Aurora Animal Shelter. Artists who do not live in these states may team up with one who does.
The project calls for a metal wall sculpture to be placed on the north and west facades of the building, creating a sense of arrival and marking the entrance to the facility. The artwork should express the Animal Shelter's functions as a sanctuary and beacon of hope for animals in need, depicting a story of comfort and optimism. The project budget is $15,000 and should cover all expenses including artist fee, structural engineering, consultants, fabrication, transportation, installation, graffiti/UV protectant, overhead costs, contingency, site repairs, and building permit.
One to three semi-finalists will be invited to design a preliminary proposal and will be paid a $500 proposal fee. The proposal will include a conceptual narrative, preliminary budget, sample materials, and renderings of the artwork proposed. The City will reimburse out-of-state artists for expenses incurred while traveling to Aurora to present proposals to the Panel. Selection criteria include quality of past work submitted and experience with similar public art project budget size and media (not required but helpful). Artists without metal experience may submit qualifications as a team with a metal fabrication company. Submissions require 6 images.
