About This Call
The City of Aurora Art in Public Places Program and the Havana Business Improvement District are seeking existing outdoor sculpture for a sculpture exhibition on Havana Street. The Exhibit Art Selection Panel has selected 10 potential sites to display sculpture for one year, with an ideal installation timeline of October 2012. This project brings the business community and the arts together to attract visitors, energize streetscapes, and create public gathering places.
Eligibility is open to visual artists residing in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas. Sculpture must be three-dimensional freestanding work of any medium suitable for outdoor placement, between 3' and 14' high (depending on pedestal type), and no larger than 2 tons. Artwork must be durable, require little maintenance, be graffiti resistant, and able to withstand Colorado weather conditions. For public safety reasons, artwork should not have sharp objects or edges.
Exhibiting artists will receive a $1,000 stipend for transportation and installation. The Aurora Art in Public Places Program may purchase sculpture from the exhibit for the City's public art collection. The Havana Business Improvement District is providing cash awards: People's Choice $1,000, 1st Place $750, 2nd Place $500, and 3rd Place $250. Artists must transport and install their own artwork, with all sculptures attached to a steel plate bolted or welded to a concrete base or sidewalk. Submission requirements include a professional resume (maximum three single-sided pages), digital images (minimum 2 images per sculpture, up to 2 sculptures total), and an image list with title, media, dimensions, weight, and sale price. No hard copy submissions accepted.
