About This Call
The City of Auburn is seeking professional and emerging artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional media to exhibit their work at two City of Auburn gallery spaces. Artists working in diverse mediums are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to: paint, ink, pencil, mixed media, textiles, mosaic, glass, recycled materials, photography, calligraphy, collage, and fiber art.
Two gallery spaces are available: Auburn City Hall Gallery (25 W Main) features a professional Arakawa hanging system with gallery lighting and natural light, accommodating approximately 20-30 artworks in 4 to 5-week exhibits. Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Cheryl Sallee Gallery Wall (808 Ninth St. SE, Auburn Senior Activity Center) is outfitted with Arakawa hanging system and professional gallery lighting, featuring 8-week solo shows of approximately 8-10 artworks. Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, plus various evenings and weekends based on building rental activity.
All work must be mounted or framed and ready to hang with wires. Artists must be available to deliver and pick up artwork; shipping is not an option. A selection panel of approximately 5 people including City of Auburn Arts Commissioners, artists, and community representatives will select artists for both spaces. Exhibits are publicized through city-generated press releases, gallery brochure, and the City's website. Artists are encouraged to offer works for sale; the City takes no commission. Artists are required to sign an "Agreement to Exhibit" liability waiver. The exhibit spaces are not secured and there is no insurance for submitted objects. Installation dates and times will be assigned by City of Auburn staff, typically mid-morning during the work week. Exhibits will be scheduled beginning February 2015.
