City of Albuquerque: Ladera Heights Public Art RFQ

The Albuquerque Arts Board, Parks and Recreation Department, and Ladera Heights Art Selection Committee seek a permanent artwork for a 1% for Art project located at St. Joseph Avenue and Ladera Drive, NW in City Council District 1. This is a regional, open competition open to artists and artist teams residing in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and Colorado.

The Art Selection Committee anticipates submissions that acknowledge the site and its immediate environment. Artists should carefully consider the local setting and the long-term environmental impact of proposed media. The artwork scale should be appropriate to the site and neighborhood. Durability and minimal routine maintenance are desirable, and the work must be designed considering past vandalism issues in the area. The artwork's lifespan should be not less than 15 years.

$60,000 is available to commission a constructed and installed work of art, covering artist design and fabrication, transport, installation with all needed equipment, supervision of installation, and all construction permits. The Art Selection Committee will offer $1,000 stipends for preliminary design concepts from up to 5 finalists, or may select a single artist/artist team from original submissions. Submission materials include: a letter of intent (not to exceed 1,000 words) discussing your approach to the site; up to 8 digital images of past work; an annotated image key with title, media, dimensions, and year of completion for each image; and a current resume or CV.
