About This Call

A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for nine public artworks in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The City-wide sculpture project will place nine different sculptures by nine different artists across nine locations throughout the city, including transit centers, parks, libraries, and community centers in districts 1-9.

The chosen sites will support unique artworks that create a sense of place for residents and visitors. The appropriateness of the artwork for the site will weigh significantly in the final selection process, as will the way the work animates the immediate area and creates an identifiable link between place and artwork. The Art Selection Committee will consider a variety of media and styles, however, the artwork must be suitable for long-term outdoor display with durability and minimal routine maintenance as desirable aspects. A maximum of $30,000 is available to each selected artist to design, fabricate, transport, and install the work at one of nine sites.

Eligibility is open to artists and designers who reside in the state of New Mexico. Artists must submit a letter of intent (not to exceed two pages), a minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 digital images of past work, and a current resume including statements regarding artwork/art education or CV. If submitting as part of a team, include separate resume and statements for each individual. The selection process occurs in two phases: Phase One involves initial RFQ submission and review, with artists asked to rank their top three location preferences. Phase Two involves the Art Selection Committee selecting up to 2 finalists for each of the nine sites. Finalists may receive a $500 stipend to provide drawings, sketches, and/or descriptions of proposed site-specific artwork. Nine artists will be chosen and awarded up to $30,000 to complete each artwork. No artist will receive more than one commission. Site images, maps, and further context materials are available at www.cabq.gov/publicart/opportunities-for-artists. Questions may be directed to Brendan Picker at (505)768-3566 or [email protected].
