About This Call
The City of Albuquerque seeks large and medium scale two-dimensional works of art created by artists residing in New Mexico. The committee is interested in original works exhibiting compelling craftsmanship and technique in media including painting, printmaking, drawing, collage, photography, weaving, mixed media, and assemblage. Giclee reproductions will not be accepted. Digital photography must be printed on archival paper using archival inks.
Artworks will be placed in Albuquerque City Hall, the Albuquerque Convention Center, and other City-owned facilities. All two-dimensional works must be appropriately framed and ready for installation using museum quality materials. Specific framing requirements apply: photography, drawing, pastels, assemblage, mixed-media, and print work require 100% cotton rag mats (minimum 2 inches all around), acid-free museum quality backing and mounting, simple profile maple or oak molding (1.5" or larger), plexiglas protective covering, and D-rings for hanging hardware. Paintings on canvas must be glazed. Weaving must be under plexiglas/glass. Relief components must not extend more than 3 inches from the surface. Artwork must be appropriate for public display and comply with Public Art Guidelines regarding violence, nudity, denigration, and religious subject matter.
$100,000 is available to purchase artworks for the City of Albuquerque Public Art Collection, with the Arts Board hoping to purchase works priced between $500 and $10,000. This is an open competition for legal residents of New Mexico. Artists may submit up to two artwork submissions, with each submission including a statement (maximum 500 words), resume (maximum 500 words), up to two images (one overall piece and one detail), and an image key with title, media, dimensions, year of completion, and purchase cost. Submissions must be made electronically by 11:59 p.m. MST on March 2, 2018. Questions may be directed to Matt Carter at (505) 768-3804 or [email protected].
