About This Call
The City of Alamosa is accepting entries for the first annual "Alamosa Artscape" Art on Loan Program, a public art program open to all professional and amateur artists. Artists may submit up to three works. Judging will take place on February 15, 2017, and 10 pieces will be selected based on originality and suitability for outdoor display. Submissions are recommended to be more than two feet in height and valued at no more than $25,000. Applications are due by January 30, 2017.
Selected artwork will be displayed throughout downtown Alamosa for a one-year period. The City will provide a $750 honorarium upon delivery, insurance coverage against vandalism, theft, and vehicle damage during the display period, and two nights of lodging at a local hotel. Community members will vote for a "People's Choice Award," with a $1,000 prize awarded to the selected artist. The City will handle installation with artist assistance and will promote the artwork throughout the display period.
Artwork must require little to no maintenance and withstand harsh outdoor elements. Each piece must be attached to a steel plate to be welded to a 24" round by 34" tall pedestal (unless otherwise noted for life-sized sculptures). Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup on the specified installation date of June 3, 2017. If artwork is sold during the display period, the artist must pay the City of Alamosa a 20% commission on the sale price. The City will not be liable for degradation caused by normal wear and tear or weathering.
