About This Call
The City of Saint Paul Public Art Ordinance Program is seeking to establish a new pre-qualified City List of Qualified Public Artists to be referenced for upcoming City plans and capital projects. The List will be referenced by public art project committees, City department project managers, proposers responding to City Requests for Proposals, capital project design teams, and the City Artist program. The List may be referenced for artists to create artwork for specific capital projects such as streetscape, trail or infrastructure design; parks and play areas; recreation centers; libraries; fire or police stations; and other City-owned facilities.
Applicants must submit: 6-8 images of completed and installed past artworks with narrative descriptions including title, media, year, location of installation, materials, dimensions, and replacement value; a resume not to exceed three pages with three professional references; an artist statement not to exceed one page/3,000 characters describing interest, qualifications, public art experience, and approach to working with municipalities and neighborhoods; and a completed City of Saint Paul Vendor Outreach Questionnaire (VOQ), which must be received by November 7, 2016. Individual professional public artists or public artist teams are eligible to apply. This call is open to public artists nationwide.
The Public Art Jury will review applications and recommend artists for the City List. Selected artists will be included for a two-year period from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018. Opportunities include collaborations on plans for areas of the City, infrastructure projects, building projects, and site designs, as well as capital projects involving design and commission phases for the production and installation of public art. Artists may work as sub-consultants on design teams or enter into contracts with the City for professional services.
