About This Call

This call for artists is being conducted as a student project through the University of New Mexico College of Fine Arts, Arts Management Program in collaboration with the City of Albuquerque Public Art Urban Enhancement Program. The students of the "Public Art Roadmap" course seek to use this call for proposals as a real-life public art project management experience. Finalists' proposals will be exhibited at the City of Albuquerque history of public art exhibition at the Albuquerque Museum from January 31 through April 5, 2015, as part of the citywide exhibition "On the Map: Unfolding Albuquerque Art and Design." This call will not result in an actual public art commission or built work; however, student-selected concepts will be exhibited and critically discussed as part of the 2015 exhibition.

Pegasus Global Holdings is developing CITE, a 22 square mile, $500M capital project designed as a "test city" to replicate an American mid-sized city of 35,000 with an urban core, neighborhoods, airport, and civic center. The city will have zero permanent population and a 50-year lifespan. Artists are encouraged to propose public art that addresses the concept of "testing and evaluation" at CITE, either through art that exemplifies the meaning of public art in a space without complete public access, or art that interrogates the role of public art in relation to its audience.

Artists and artist teams residing in the United States are eligible to apply. Submissions must include: a letter of intent (not exceeding 4,000 characters) describing the proposed artwork concept, a current résumé or biography, an estimated budget with four line items (Artist Fee, Materials & Fabrication, Installation, Project Overhead), and one to three images of the proposed design concept (maximum 3MB per image). Up to five finalists will be selected by December 10, 2014. Submissions are made through CaFE at www.callforentry.org. Contact: [email protected] or publicartroadmap.tumblr.com.
