About This Call
ArtWorks, with support from The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile Jr. Foundation, invites artists residing in the United States to submit qualifications and a site-specific conceptual sketch for a public art installation at Cincinnati's Findlay Market, Ohio's oldest continuously operated public market. This is the second of a three-year commitment from the Haile Foundation. Two to three artists or teams will be selected as finalists by a jury and paid $500 to develop full design proposals. The total budget for this public art project is $140,000, with a separate $10,000 fund set aside for maintenance.
The installation will be located at the Western Plaza/Esplanade of Market House, approximately 75 feet long along Elm Street and 23 feet from sidewalk to the overhang of the Market house. Artists are encouraged to elevate works via suspension or pole/column with small footprint to preserve ground space for market programming. The site is within a local historic conservation district, and all installations must be approved by the Local Historic Conservation Board with a Certificate of Appropriateness.
Eligibility is open to all professional artists and artist teams over age 18 who currently reside in the United States. Submissions must include a current resume (two-page limit), artist statement (4000 characters), description of experience with site-specific public art and historic districts, professional references (at least three), 6-10 digital images of previous work (.jpg format, 5 megabytes or less each), and a minimum of one site-specific conceptual sketch responding to project goals. Application deadline is February 15, 2015, 11:59 PM MST via CallForEntry.org. Finalists will be notified by March 15, with full proposals due May 30. Final artist selection is scheduled for July 2015, with installation planned for Spring 2016.
