About This Call

Chimera is an exhibition at 22 North Gallery in Ypsilanti, Michigan, seeking work that disrupts the human-animal binary. The exhibition is interested in work exploring the meeting places between humans and other animals, or between plants and animals, or animals and their environments. Artwork can explore how the lines between humanity and animality are increasingly blurred, whether through literal hybridity or through interaction and systemic approaches.

The exhibition is open to all Great Lakes area artists residing in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, or Minnesota. Artists may submit up to five works created within the last three years in any traditional or non-traditional visual arts media. Entry fee is $20.00, with an additional $5.00 fee for 4th and 5th entries. Work samples may include up to 10 images, 5 audio files, and 5 video files (minimum 1 total sample required). Artwork must not exceed 60" in any dimension or weigh over 150 pounds (installations with multiple parts may be considered if individual parts meet these limits).

Online entries are accepted until September 23, 2017. Notification will be sent during the first two weeks of October. Accepted work must be delivered to 22 North Gallery, 22 N. Huron Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 between October 23-28. All work must arrive ready to install with clear installation instructions. Exhibition dates are November 3 through December 23, 2017, with an opening reception on November 3 and artist talks on December 1. Works will be insured while on gallery premises against theft, vandalism, and damage caused by gallery patrons or staff. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs. A 15% commission is retained on all artwork sold during the exhibition.
