About This Call
The 39th Annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale is an invitational exhibition featuring world-class Western art from 60-65 artists across the United States and Canada. Traditionally, only 2-4 new artists are selected each year. The show runs from July 18 to August 18, 2019, and serves as the primary fundraiser for the CFD Old West Museum, a private 501(c)(3) not-for-profit institution.
Artwork must have Western subject matter. Applicants should submit a portfolio of 5 pieces, website information, gallery representation list, recent shows/awards, and any publications featuring their work. Notifications will be sent by October 15. If accepted, all artwork must be new and remain on exhibit for the duration of the show. The committee reserves the right to refuse display of artwork deemed inappropriate.
All works must be originals; no photos, laser prints, giclees, or digital reproductions are accepted. Works with multiples (printmaking or sculpture) must be disclosed with the number of available multiples. Two-dimensional pieces must be under 47 inches wide and 60 inches tall including frame. All artwork must arrive show-ready, appropriately framed and wired to hang. Artists are responsible for return shipping costs of unsold artwork. Work will be displayed at the CFD Old West Museum in the Carriage Hall and East Gallery.
Artists must price work to allow a 35% commission supporting the museum. Any artwork sold or commissioned as a result of the show is subject to the 35% sales commission. During the Sale Drawing, buyers place competitive intent-to-purchase slips; the first drawn gets the piece with 20 minutes to claim it. Work is also listed at a "Jump the Gun" price with 25% markup, with artists receiving 30% of the markup amount. A museum patron will purchase one piece for the permanent collection.
Shipped artwork must arrive June 17-21, 2019. Hand-delivered artwork must be delivered June 24-28, 2019, 9 am-4 pm. Artists must provide a 100-120 word biography, high-resolution JPGs of show pieces, and a list of all pieces by title, size, media, price, and available multiples by May 1, 2019. The show opens July 18, 2019, with an exclusive buyer and patron preview July 17, 5 pm-7 pm. First settlement is by August 9, 2019. Artwork pickup is August 20-23, 2019, 9 am-4 pm, Tuesday-Friday. Shipped artwork will be returned August 26-30, 2019.
Entry fee is $75. International artists are eligible. Contact: [email protected] or 307-778-7202.
