About This Call

The South Suburban Park and Recreation District's Public Art Committee requests proposals for permanent artwork to be placed at Cherry Knolls Park, a 25-acre community park located in Centennial, Colorado. The park includes 5 ball fields, 7 multi-use athletic fields, restroom, shelter, playground, creek, and parking lot. The Big Dry Creek Regional Trail extends through the park. The proposed artwork location is along Elizabeth Street in a grassy area at the top of a hill, with Sandburg Elementary Center for the Sciences directly across the street.

Proposed artwork should be appropriate for family-focused uses, integral to the site in theme, materials, and scale, unique, and thoughtfully integrated into the existing environment. The artwork must meet or exceed standards for structural integrity, durability, weather resistance, vandal and graffiti resistance, and public safety. Submissions may include existing artist-owned work if appropriate for the site. Artists are encouraged to visit the site prior to submitting a proposal. Up to $25,000 is available for all expenses including artist fees, materials, fabrication, finishes, foundation, engineering, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, and documentation.

This project is open to all artists residing in Colorado with appropriate background, experience, and reputation. The selected artwork may not be duplicated within 200 miles of the site. Artwork will be selected by a nine-member South Suburban Public Art Committee based on visual presence, creativity, site appropriateness, aesthetic quality, maintenance requirements, durability, public safety, collaborative ability, client references, and probability of successful completion. Finalists will present design concepts and receive a $100 proposal fee. The selected artist will enter into a contract with a 1/3-1/3-1/3 payment plan. Installation is to be negotiated with the artist, with completion no later than June 2018.
