About This Call

The Denver Arts & Venues Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original work of art for the Cherry Creek Drive South reconstruction from South University Boulevard to South Colorado Boulevard in Denver. The artwork may be located anywhere along the Cherry Creek Drive South corridor, with the selection panel focusing on the City of Karmiel Park on Steele Street. This commission is open to Colorado artists and artist teams only.

The primary location for the artwork is the City of Karmiel Park, 3300 Cherry Creek N Dr. The selection panel is open to artwork in all media and materials, but notes that materials should highlight the serenity of the area and be mindful and respectful of the park's functionality. The panel seeks a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork that is appropriate for Cherry Creek Drive South and for the diverse community that utilizes it. All artwork should be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials due to exposure to weather, physical stresses, and potential vandalism. Emerging artists who have not completed a permanent public art commission for more than $10,000 are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must submit eight digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest no longer than 2,000 characters via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will choose up to three semifinalists for interviews. If a formal proposal is requested, the artist will receive an honorarium to prepare and present the proposal in person. Semifinalists will be required to submit a Diversity & Inclusiveness Form. The budget for this commission is approximately $30,000 USD, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and travel. Prevailing wage requirements will apply for all work done on city property. The deadline for entry is Friday, May 30, 11:59 PM MDT.
