About This Call

Charlotte Street Foundation is seeking applications from visual artists, performing artists, and writers for its Studio Residency Program. The application deadline is Monday, March 29th, 2021. Artists will be notified by April 30th, 2021, with studio move-in and group orientation on Sunday, June 20th, 2021.

The Studio Residency Program provides free studio and rehearsal spaces to a mixed disciplinary cohort of exceptional artists for two year-long terms. The program includes 24-hour accessible free studio work space in Kansas City, MO, workshop and media lab access, regular engagement with advisors and guest critics, annual Open Studios, and opportunities to develop networks and collaborate with approximately 30 artists. The facility provides both private studios and shared rehearsal spaces. Currently there are 12-14 available studios for the incoming 2021 cohort.

Visual artists working in all media are encouraged to apply, though toxic materials (spray paint, fixatives, oil paint mediums) are prohibited in unventilated studios, and the spaces do not enable use of kilns, welding equipment, or heavy machinery. Performing artists in all disciplines are eligible, including theatre artists, choreographers, dancers, composers, musicians, and filmmakers. Writers in all genres are encouraged to apply, with particular preference for those interested in cross-disciplinary work. Applicants must be over 18 years old; full-time students currently enrolled in degree-seeking programs will not be considered. Non-area residents may apply but are expected to reside in the Kansas City metropolitan five-county region (Jackson, Platte, Cass Counties in MO and Johnson, Wyandotte, Douglas, Leavenworth Counties in KS) during the residency term. Work samples should include 1-10 images, with optional audio (0-6 files) and video (0-6 files).
