About This Call
The Charlotte Street Generative Performing Artist Awards recognize, encourage, and significantly support Kansas City-based artists creating original, exceptional, new work in all genres of performance. The Awards provide financial support, critical recognition, and public exposure to reward artistic accomplishment and support continued development of artists' work and careers.
Artists must be generative artists—creators of original new work—who create new, contemporary work that is innovative or experimental in terms of form, content, process, and/or presentation, and who demonstrate sustained commitment to deepening and expanding their work and generative practices. Each 2018 Charlotte Street Generative Performing Artist Fellow receives an unrestricted cash grant of $10,000 and recognition through media announcements, web-based marketing and promotion, and special events.
Eligibility: Applicants must currently live and have lived for at least one year prior to the application deadline in the five-county Greater Kansas City metro area (Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, Wyandotte). Artists must be at least 21 years of age by the application deadline and may not be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program. If an artist has earned an undergraduate degree, the completion date must be at least 12 months earlier than the application deadline. Collaborative groups are eligible if well-established, creating generative work in an ongoing deeply collaborative manner, with each member playing a generative role and the group not incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit. Previous Charlotte Street Generative Performing Artist Award recipients are not eligible to apply.
Award recipients are expected to remain residents of Kansas City or one of the eligible five counties during the Award year and to keep Charlotte Street informed of all scheduled exhibitions and public engagement. Recipients must identify at least one scheduled performance or plan one public event during the Award year to be promoted or hosted in affiliation with the Award.
Applications must be completed online at www.callforentry.org by November 19, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Required materials include: artist's statement (500 words or less), artist intent/value of award statement (350 words or less), resume/CV (5 page maximum), and work samples documenting up to three original works created within the past three years (totaling no more than 5 minutes). Work samples should be submitted as one 5-minute compilation or three separate excerpts. The selection panel will review applications in December 2016–January 2017, with ten semi-finalists notified in January 2018. Semi-finalists will have 20-minute in-person visits with the selection panel on February 23, 2018, followed by final selection and notification of the 2018 Generative Performing Artist Fellows. For technical assistance, contact Charlotte Street Foundation at 816.221.5115 or [email protected].
