About This Call

Charlotte Street Foundation is seeking submissions from local artists for the Crossroads Artboards, exterior double-sided billboards located at 125 Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City. From July 2021 through March 2022, new commissioned images by Kansas City area artists will be presented and rotated approximately every three months.

Selected artists will receive a $1,000 artist fee for completing and delivering print-ready images for one set of side-by-side billboards. Six artists will be selected through a competitive jury process. Eligibility is open to non-student artists 21 years of age and older living within the five-county Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area (Jackson, Platte, and Clay counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas). Public announcement of recipients will be published around June 7, 2021, with the first installation occurring the first week of July 2021.

Each selected artist must produce two images to be printed on ECO-flex vinyl and displayed side by side. Each Artboard is 27 feet long and 12.4 feet high. Artists are responsible for preparing digital images sized 27" x 12.4" at 600 dpi resolution. Charlotte Street Foundation handles printing and installation. Proposals must include: a narrative proposal describing the concept (no more than 300 words), at least 2 JPEG images or PDFs documenting the proposed Artboards, and a resume, CV, and artist bio including exhibition history and contact information. Up to five additional JPEG images of artwork produced within the past three years are recommended. Applications are submitted through Call For Entry (CaFE.org). There are no application fees. The work chosen for display will be that which panelists deem most dynamic, engaging, and inspiring to the public; striking and aesthetically strong; and authentic to the creative spirit of the Crossroads neighborhood.
