About This Call
Charlotte Street Foundation invites proposals from artists living and working within an 80-mile radius of downtown Kansas City for contemporary arts programming to be presented January 2015 through July 2015 at Charlotte Street's la Esquina venue.
Proposals may be for contemporary arts projects including visual art exhibitions, site-specific installations, original live performances (dance, theater, music, performance art, spoken word, etc.), video screenings, literary readings/events, public programs, and hybrid forms. Programming should be appropriate for la Esquina, a 2500 square-foot non-commercial space on Kansas City's Westside committed to presenting leading-edge contemporary work. Exhibitions typically run 6-7 weeks. Performances range from one-night events to month-long runs. It will ultimately be at the discretion of Charlotte Street Foundation to determine the schedule and duration of selected projects.
Eligibility: Artists and arts organizers of all disciplines 21 and older living and working within 80 miles of downtown Kansas City are eligible. Lead artists and curators must live and work within an 80-mile radius of downtown KC, though projects may feature artists and collaborators from elsewhere. Charlotte Street will provide modest stipends for selected projects (not to exceed $1200) to assist with artist fees, project-specific supplies, production assistance, and packing/shipping. Charlotte Street will separately fund and produce printed materials, exhibition signage, and basic didactic materials, and provides planning, marketing, and installation support. A limited supply of flat screen monitors, projectors, DVD players, sound equipment, and platform stage units may be available. Lead artists for advancing projects will be notified by late August and invited to present to the panel at a final selection meeting in September 2014. Final notifications will be issued by early October.
