About This Call
Charlotte Street Foundation seeks to advance its mission of nurturing, supporting, connecting, and propelling individual artists and the arts community in the Kansas City region by establishing a platform for highly promising artists emerging from studio art programs in the region.
Applicants must be enrolled in schools located within a 200 mile radius of Kansas City, MO. Eligible applicants are currently enrolled undergraduate BFA/BA art majors in their senior year, graduating in spring or summer 2011, or currently enrolled MFA/MA art majors in any year, including those graduating spring/summer 2011. Work in all media completed in the last two years is eligible for consideration. Artists must submit five digital images of work by May 2, 2011. Selected artists will be notified by June 3, 2011, and must deliver their work to the gallery by August 29, 2011. Work by selected artists will be featured in an exhibition at Charlotte Street's La Esquina gallery, September 2-October 15, 2011.
Rather than a broad survey, the Biennial presents multiple works by each selected artist. Curators Katherine Pill (Curatorial Fellow at the Kemper Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO) and Francesca Wilmott (Co-Director of Los Caminos and Modern and Contemporary Research Fellow at the St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis, MO) will select artists and work, and will work with selected artists to determine which works will be presented. One artist from the exhibition will be awarded a solo show at Charlotte Street's Urban Culture Project Space in 2012.
