Charlotte Street Foundation 2018 Visual Artist Awards

The Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards seek to recognize and significantly support Kansas City-based visual artists of all media who are creating exceptional contemporary work. The awards provide financial support, critical recognition, and public exposure to reward artistic accomplishment and support continued development of artists' work and careers.

Each 2018 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Award Fellow receives an unrestricted cash grant of $10,000, recognition through media announcements and web-based marketing, and inclusion in the 2018 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Award exhibition at H&R Block Artspace with a printed brochure featuring images and commissioned writing about their work. Selection criteria include strength of artistic work to date, promise for future artistic achievement, commitment to innovation and experimentation, and potential impact of the award on continued artistic development.

Eligibility: Applicants must currently live and have lived for at least one year in the five-county Greater Kansas City Metro area (Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, Wyandotte). Artists must be at least 21 years old by the deadline and may not be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program. If an artist has earned an undergraduate degree, completion must be at least 12 months before the deadline. Collectives/collaboratives are eligible if all members meet eligibility criteria, the group is well-established and creating work collaboratively, each member's primary work is as part of the collective, and the group is not incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit. Previous Charlotte Street Visual Artist Award recipients are not eligible.

Applications must be submitted online at www.callforentry.org by November 19, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Required materials include an artist's statement (500 words or less), resume/CV (5 pages maximum), and work samples. Artists may submit up to 10 high-resolution images, up to 5 video files totaling no more than 10 minutes, or a combination of 6 images and 1 five-minute video, or 2 images and 2 videos totaling no more than 8 minutes. Work samples should be from the past 3 years. Video submissions should preferably be provided as URL links (Vimeo or YouTube). The selection process includes a competitive review by a panel of regional and national visual arts professionals, with 10 semi-finalists selected for in-person studio visits in February 2018.
