About This Call
Charlotte Street Foundation invites visual artists living and working in the 5-County Greater Kansas City Metro Area to apply for its 2016 Visual Artist Awards. Three unrestricted cash awards of $10,000 each will be distributed in 2016.
The intent of the awards is to recognize and significantly support Kansas City-based visual artists of all media who are creating exceptional, contemporary work. Awarded artists will be those who are actively generating exceptional new work, creating work that is accomplished and imaginative, and demonstrating sustained commitment to the development of their work and artistic practices. Each award fellow will receive an unrestricted cash grant of $10,000, be recognized by Charlotte Street Foundation at the time of award announcement and throughout 2016, and have their work featured in the 2016 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Fellows Exhibition at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, accompanied by a printed brochure with images and commissioned writing about their work.
Eligibility: Applicants must currently live and have lived for at least one year prior to the application deadline in the Five County Greater Kansas City Metro area (Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, Wyandotte); be at least 21 years of age by the application deadline; and be at least one year out of undergraduate school and not currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student. Applicants must not have made arrangements to be a full-time student from January 1-December 31, 2016. Collectives and collaboratives are eligible if all members meet eligibility criteria and the group is well-established and creating work in an ongoing, deeply collaborative manner. Previous Charlotte Street Award recipients are not eligible to apply.
Applications must be submitted online through www.callforentry.org by Monday, November 16, 2015, at midnight MST. Required materials include an artist's statement (500 words or less), resume/CV (5 pages maximum), and work samples. Artists may submit up to 10 images of work created in the past 3 years, up to 5 video samples totaling no more than 10 minutes, or a combination of 6 images and 1 five-minute video, or 2 images and 2 videos totaling no more than 8 minutes. A work sample list with relevant details must accompany submissions. Selection will be conducted by a panel of regional and national visual arts professionals. Semi-finalists will be notified in early February 2016 and will receive 30-minute in-person studio visits with the selection panel in February/March 2016. For technical assistance, contact Charlotte Street Foundation at 816.221.5115 or [email protected].
