About This Call

Charlotte Street Foundation invites visual artists living and working in the 5-County Greater Kansas City Metro Area to apply for its 2015 Visual Artist Awards. Three unrestricted cash awards of $10,000 each will be distributed in 2015. One of the three award fellows will additionally receive the Byron C. Cohen Award, providing up to $1,800 in funding to attend Art Basel Miami or another leading international art fair.

The intent of the awards is to recognize and significantly support Kansas City-based visual artists of all media who are creating exceptional, contemporary work. Award recipients will be those actively generating exceptional new work, creating work that is accomplished and imaginative, and demonstrating sustained commitment to the development of their artistic practices. Each fellow will receive an unrestricted $10,000 cash grant, recognition by Charlotte Street Foundation including media announcements and web-based promotion, and have their work featured in the 2015 Visual Artist Fellows Exhibition at the H&R Block Artspace with a printed brochure.

Eligibility: Applicants must currently live and have lived for at least one year in the Five County Greater Kansas City Metro area (Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, Wyandotte); be at least 21 years old by the deadline; be at least one year out of undergraduate school and not currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student; and not be previous Charlotte Street Award recipients. Collaborative groups are eligible if all members meet eligibility criteria and the group is well-established and creating work in an ongoing, deeply collaborative manner. Award recipients must remain Kansas City residents during 2015, keep Charlotte Street Foundation informed of exhibitions and public engagements, have work available for the Fall 2015 exhibition, and be available for associated events.

Selection will be conducted by a panel of regional and national visual arts professionals. Semi-finalists will be notified in early February 2015 and will receive 30-minute in-person studio visits in February/March 2015. Application deadline is Monday, November 17, 2014, at midnight MST. Applicants must submit an artist's statement (500 words or less), resume/CV (5 pages max), and work samples: up to 10 images of work created in the past 3 years, up to 5 video samples totaling no more than 10 minutes, or a combination of 6 images and 1 five-minute video, or 2 images and 2 videos totaling no more than 8 minutes. All applications must be completed online through www.callforentry.org. For technical assistance, contact Charlotte Street Foundation at 816.221.5115 or [email protected].
