About This Call
Charlotte Street Foundation, a non-profit arts organization based in Kansas City, Missouri, invites applications from eligible artists for the 2011 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards. This is the first time the foundation has opened the awards to direct artist applications; previously, consideration was given only to artists nominated by a panel of Awards Advisors and Community Nominators.
Eligibility requirements: You must be a visual artist who has resided in the five-county Metropolitan Kansas City area (Jackson, Clay, Platte, Wyandotte, Johnson counties) since at least November 1, 2009; be 21 years of age or older as of November 1, 2010; have graduated from undergraduate school prior to June 30, 2009 (college attendance is not required); and not be a full-time student or plan to be a full-time student during November 1, 2010–June 30, 2011. Artists who have previously received Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards are not eligible to apply.
Applications must include up to 10 images of work created since January 2008, or up to five minutes of video for time-based work, or a combination of up to 5 images and up to 2.5 minutes of video for mixed media work; a list detailing all work samples; and a current resume including exhibition history. Video submissions should be mailed to Charlotte Street Foundation, postmarked no later than November 1, 2010. All other submissions must be completed through CaFE. Awards recipients are selected based on the quality of submitted work samples, accomplishments to date and promise for continued development, relevance of work to contemporary art discourses, and potential for the work to influence the field and have lasting value. Semi-finalists will be notified by January 15, 2011 and must be available for in-person studio visits on February 2–3, 2011.
