About This Call
The City of Overland Park is seeking three to six artists to create ephemeral chalk art drawings at three city parks: Hickory Hills Park (8420 W. 54th Terrace), Sapling Grove Park (8210 Grant), and Westbrooke Park (10702 W. 88th Terrace). Artists will be hired to work with area residents and answer questions from the public, especially youths. Art should reflect positive messages and be appropriate for a family audience.
Each artist will create one mural encompassing a minimum of 9 square feet of sidewalk or paved space on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 (rain dates: July 28, 29, 30). Artists are expected to produce the art in a single day (6-8 hours) and be on time at their assigned park location. Compensation is $600-800 per artist for one complete mural on site.
Submissions must be received via www.callforentry.org by June 7, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Required materials include high resolution images in jpg or gif format, images of previous art creations, a proposed sketch of the mural with colors and proposed dimensions noted (sizes in inches), artist vitae including previous works and relevant experience, and a statement regarding the piece of art submitted addressing creation, themes, messages, inspiration, and process as it relates to the neighborhood. Minimum 4 images, maximum 6 images required. Selected artists will be notified June 22, 2021, with contracts to follow the week of June 28, 2021.
