About This Call
The 2014 Western Spirit Art Show and Sale is a national exhibition held at the CFD Old West Museum in Wyoming from February 28 to April 13, 2014. Preliminary screening of art entries will be conducted by jurors using submitted digital files. Accepted artists will be notified in mid-December. Final award selection will be made by jurors prior to opening weekend from the artwork exhibit at the Museum. Jurors include Holly Turner (Executive Director of the Casper Artist Guild), Chris Navarro (Bronze Sculptor), and Mark Ritchie (University of Wyoming Printmaking Professor).
Entry fee is $20.00 per entry, with an additional $20.00 media fee for each additional image. Artists may submit 1-6 images. All accepted artists receive complimentary tickets for themselves and a guest to the opening night reception on March 1, 2014. An Artist Development Seminar is offered on March 1, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., featuring presentations from jurors and special guests on topics including photographing and marketing artwork and historic western art traditions. The seminar fee is $40.00.
Accepted artists are invited to enter one piece in the Vandewark Miniature Show, which does not require advance approval. Six artists will be selected to participate in the Quickdraw event on opening night, creating a finished piece of art in 45 minutes to be auctioned at the awards ceremony. All artwork must arrive show ready: appropriately framed, matted, and/or mounted, and ready to hang or display. Works must hang flat against the wall. Tape wire ends and use Plexiglass for media under glass. Saw tooth clamps and protruding eye screws are not accepted. Any artwork mounting concerns must be discussed with the Curator of Exhibits ([email protected]) or Curator of Collections ([email protected]) no later than January 10, 2014.
