About This Call
The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts (CPFA), founded in 1967 by the State College Chamber of Commerce and Penn State's College of Arts and Architecture, is seeking artists for a commission in the Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library at Penn State's University Park campus.
The selected artist will create a work for the interior of the Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library, located in the Stuckeman Family Building. Recommended installation locations are the entry vestibule and main reading area. The library houses 28,000 volumes on current design practice and the recent history of architecture and landscape architecture. The commission is valued at $33,000, and the artist will enter into a contract with the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts for production of the work.
Submission requirements include ten (10) images, a letter of interest (no more than 5,000 characters) describing your work, other commissioned work completed, and your vision for the piece, and a current resume (no more than two pages; if applying as a team, combine resumes with the lead artist first). Three finalists will be selected to produce maquettes, due October 13, 2008. Each finalist will receive an honorarium of $1,250 (half payable in advance, half upon delivery). Finalists are strongly encouraged to visit the site. The commission will be awarded after evaluation of the maquettes. The selection panel reserves the right not to award the commission. Jurors will evaluate submissions based on the quality of the artist's work and response to the building's values: sustainability as a fundamental design principle, building and landscape as an inseparable design problem, and a library as a source for precedence, self-improvement, and discovery. Artists' experience completing commissions of similar scope will be considered.
