About This Call
Central Oregon Community College is seeking professional artists and groups of artists age 18 and older to create permanent public artworks for the new Health Careers Building. International artists must be legally able to conduct work in the United States. One application per artist or team is permitted.
The project includes both exterior and interior art opportunities. The exterior artwork will be located at the northwest entrance plaza (60'X50'), with the building's highest point at 61'6". The work must be fabricated in durable, permanent, outdoor media that is safe, easily maintained, and has proven viability in public artworks. The selected artist will be paid a maximum of $69,500 for artist's fees, fabrication, insurance, transportation, installation, and documentation.
Interior art options include: Option A - Lobby section with ceiling suspended work; Option B - Level 1 Info Alcove with wall-hung work; Option C - Level 2 with free-standing work. The combined budget for all interior art is $29,500. The college will purchase more than one artwork but not necessarily for all areas listed. Artists may submit for individual sites or multiple sites; no single interior art piece should exceed $10,000-$15,000. Interior artwork must be durable, permanent, and secure.
Submission materials due by October 15, 2011: a letter of interest describing your approach to public art, relevant experience, and interest in the project (including preferred materials, themes, and minimum budget); a current resume (joint resume for teams); and digital images of previous work with descriptions including title, date, dimensions, materials, and location. The selection panel consists of faculty, administration, and currently enrolled students who will evaluate submissions based on artistic merit, past experience, and ability to complement the building's architecture. Notification of finalists: November 15, 2011. Finalists will submit proposals by January 3, 2012, with final selection on January 23, 2012. Installation is scheduled for August 2012.
