About This Call
The City and County of Denver's Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create original mosaic public artwork(s) for the Central 70 Cover Park, located between Columbine and Clayton streets over Interstate 70 in Denver, CO. The selection panel has identified several park locations for mosaic artworks and will select one or two artists or artist teams for the allocated total budget of approximately $150,000 USD.
The project includes two locations for mosaic art: 12 "gateway" structures near the park, each with a surface area of approximately three feet by five feet (total approximately 180 square feet, allocated budget $100,000), and the community building with a total surface area of approximately 105 square feet (allocated budget $50,000). Artworks should be created using mosaic tile or hand-made ceramic applications. The panel would like to see artworks that are tactile in nature and accessible to the blind and low-vision communities. Materials should be suitable for outdoor display with durability and ease of maintenance as important considerations.
Eligibility is open to artists or artist teams residing in the state of Colorado. Applicants may apply as a single artist or multi-person collaborative group. Submission deadline is Monday, December 15, 2022, 11:59 p.m. MST. Applicants must submit six digital images of past work, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will choose three finalists who will create site-specific proposals and be interviewed virtually. Finalists will be paid an honorarium for this work. Selected artist(s) or artist team(s) will work with Colorado Department of Transportation and Denver Parks and Recreation representatives, as well as Denver Public Art staff when finalizing designs for installation.
