About This Call
The City of Coral Springs is commissioning an artist for a mural at the Center for the Arts, a city facility providing entertainment, events, education, and arts and culture. The mural wall dimensions are approximately 75'4" (height) by 80'7" (width). The theme should incorporate the location and surrounding context with relation to the arts, and should focus on the City's Core Values: Teamwork, Respect, Accountability, Innovation, Leadership, and Superior Service (TRAILS).
The mural artwork must be durable and require minimal ongoing maintenance. Given South Florida's sub-tropical climate with intense sun and seasonal heavy rain, artists must apply UV resistant sealant to the finished product to avoid fading. The total purchase budget is up to $150,000.00, which includes all insurance, taxes, fees, permits, materials, preparation, equipment, and installation. Selected artists must complete installation, participate in a dedication/unveiling ceremony, and deliver one public lecture or program at the Coral Springs Museum of Art.
The project is open to professional visual artists with experience implementing their work in the public realm. Artists must submit a cover letter detailing relevant experience, professional resume, images of proposed artwork and materials, proposed purchase price, a project timeline and action plan, and a proposal for the public lecture. The selection committee will consider appropriateness to program goals and site conditions, artist qualifications, artwork quality, artist location, and maintenance requirements. Tentative schedule: Artist Selection February 26, 2024; Commission Approval March 2024; Artwork Installation no later than June 2024.
